HAM AND SWISS SLIDERS

I don’t know where this recipe originated or who was the first to put these ingredients together… but I’m glad someone did! These ham and cheese sliders have been around for decades I feel like. This recipe is nothing new but it is a classic brunch item you should keep on your list for holidays and special events. They are rich, buttery, a tad bit salty and oh so savory. I guarantee you everyone will be a fan.

HAM AND SWISS SLIDERS

Prep time: 5 minutes

Cook time: 25 minutes

Total time: 30 minutes

Serves: 12 sliders

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 12 ct package Hawaiian rolls
  • 1 lb honey ham (or Virginia ham)
  • 1/2 lb Swiss cheese, sliced
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup salted butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp Worcestershire
  • 2 tsp dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp poppy seeds
  • 1 tsp minced onion

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Prep a 9×13 baking dish by lightly buttering the bottom.
  3. Use a bread knife to carefully slice the Hawaiian rolls in half so that you have a flat layer for both top and bottom. (There’s no need to cut the rolls individually until after they are cooked.)
  4. Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on the inside of the top and bottom half. Place the bottom layer in the buttered baking dish.
  5. Layer ham on the bottom. Then layer Swiss cheese on top of the ham. (I like to double the Swiss layer to make it extra cheesy.) Place the top layer of bun on.
  6. Whisk together melted butter, worcestershire, dijon, poppy seeds and minced onion. Pour this mixture on top of the rolls and use a basting brush to spread it evenly across.
  7. Cover dish tightly with aluminum foil and place in the oven for 15 minutes on the middle rack. After that, uncover the dish and place back into the oven for an additional 10 minutes.
  8. Remove from oven and slice into individual sliders. Enjoy while hot.
