GARLIC HERB BUTTER FRENCH LOAF

If I’m making garlic bread, (which isn’t very often) I’m going all out. I’m not skimping on the salty butter or the chunks of garlic. I want this bread to be swimming in an herb butter bath. That’s the only way to do it I think. While it cooks in the oven, the butter slowly melts and seeps into the fluffy bread. The garlic starts to release its scent throughout the house as it roasts to perfection. The herbs add extra zest and earthiness to the overall sinful loaf. I could honestly sit down and solely eat this as a meal. As a kid, I was always that little girl that would fill up on bread before the meal. I can hear my parents voices now, “stop eating so much bread Tina, you’ll fill up before your meal comes.” I never listened and I always filled up on bread. I can remember when the bread came out at the restaurant and not being able to control myself. I loved bread so much as a kid, and love it even more now as an adult. Except now I can control myself when the bread comes to the table!

This is the perfect thing for a holiday meal. Thanksgiving is coming up and my husband and I are headed back to my hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. I’m so overjoyed being able to see my parents and hang out for the week. I plan on making the whole thanksgiving lunch and this garlic bread will absolutely be on the table. I mean seriously…it only takes 15 minutes, so why not?! Delicious turkey, sweet potatoes, stuffing and yummy garlic bread. Oh yes. Sounds like a dream.

You don’t have to limit this bread to holiday meals, make it along with a weeknight dinner. Serve it with my shrimp and grits or roasted beer can chicken. I’ll copy a few links below that this bread will work perfectly with!

Disclaimer: Kids go nuts for this bread! My 3 year old can keep his hands off. He’s just like me I’m afraid..we love our carbs! Bread is our weakness.

GARLIC HERB BUTTER FRENCH LOAF

Prep time: 5 minutes

Cook time: 10 minutes

Total time: 15 minutes

Serves: 10+

INGREDIENTS:

1 12 inch long French loaf

8 large cloves garlic, minced

10 tbsp salted butter, room temperature

1 tbsp dried parsley

1/2 tbsp dried thyme

1/2 tsp garlic powder

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Slice the French loaf in half so that there are two equal pieces (top and bottom).

In a bowl mix together butter, fresh garlic, parsley, thyme and garlic powder.

Spread butter mixture on the belly of each piece of your French loaf. Make sure you spread all the way to the edges and that every inch of the bread has an even layer of butter.

Place bread on a baking sheet and place in the oven for 8 minutes. Once 8 minutes has passed, turn the oven to a high broil and cook for an additional 2 minutes. This will create a more crusty edge on the bread.

Take out of the oven and slice into personal sized pieces. Best served warm.
